Huw Edwards confesses and face a lifetime sentence
Former BBC news presenter Huw Edwards has pleaded guilty to three charges of making indecent images of children.
The 62-year-old was involved in a WhatsApp chat with an adult man from December 2020 to August 2021, during which he received 377 explicit images, 41 of which included children. These indecent images comprised 22 Category C images, 12 Category B, and seven Category A, the most serious classification. The category A images primarily depicted children aged between 13 and 15 years old, with one image estimated to show a child between seven and nine years old. Edwards also received a category A video of a young boy in August 2021. Despite telling the sender not to share illegal images, Edwards continued the chat, receiving further legal pornographic images. The term “making” images encompasses actions like opening, downloading, storing, or receiving images via social media. Edwards, who resigned from BBC in April, will be sentenced on 16th September.
